Hinsdale Police Issue Warning Over Vehicle Thefts

Over the past two months, the Hinsdale Police Department has investigated six separate incidents of motor vehicle theft. These vehicles were easy targets, as they were left unlocked with the ignition key inside each vehicle.

Five of the six vehicles have been recovered, and all but one was found in the City of Chicago. Evidence collected from the recovered vehicles included ammunition and items suggesting extensive drug use. The evidence and additional information that has developed suggest these stolen vehicles are being used in the commission of other serious crimes in the City of Chicago and surrounding suburbs.

As a reminder, the Hinsdale Police Department is urging the community to remove valuables from the interior of vehicles and lock the doors, particularly during the overnight hours.  By simply locking your vehicle, you can protect yourself from becoming a victim of this type of opportunistic crime.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity by dialing 911 and allowing police officers to investigate the matter.

If you should have any questions, please contact the Hinsdale Police Department's non-emergency line at 630-789-7070.
