Water Meter Replacement & Automated Meter Reading (AMR) System Program

The Village is pleased to announce the implementation of the Water Meter Replacement & AMR System Program. The purpose of the program is to replace approximately 5,000 water meters (generally those older than five years) as the age of most water meters is well beyond its useful life and to implement an automated meter reading system for all 5,800 water system accounts. With the new system, water meter readings will be automatically transmitted to Village Hall, thus eliminating the need to manually read each water meter and will improve accuracy, customer service and efficiency for all customers.

There is no charge for your participation in this mandatory program. The Village has contracted with HD Supply Waterworks of Mokena, IL to supply and install the new water metering system. Their subcontractor, United Meters, Inc. (UMI), a licensed plumbing contractor, will install water meters and the meter reading system transmitters throughout the Village. UMI installers are licensed plumbers, will have appropriate Village-issued identification, and will be driving company marked vehicles. Click here to view photos of all installers. If you are unsure about any suspicious activity related to this Program please do not hesitate to contact the Police Department at (630) 789-7070.

Please be advised that the installers must have adequate clearance around the water meter, which might be located in your basement, crawl space or utility closet. Under normal circumstances, the replacement will take approximately 30 minutes during which time your water will be shut-off. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this important Program. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Village of Hinsdale Finance Department at 630-789-7025.

The Village requests your cooperation when UMI contacts you to schedule an appointment. Compliance with this program is mandatory for all water users.
